The ADA Pack Checker (NO2) provides precise readings of NO2 in your aquarium. Nitrite formed from ammonia is harmful to aquatic creatures, such as fish and shrimp. The level of NO2 in the tank goes up right after the initial set-up of the aquarium and when the biological filtration becomes unstable. Excellent for examining the condition of the filter system. Pack comes with 5 tests and instructions inside.
Why test?
Nitrite results during the degradation by bacteria of protein and ammonium. It is normally processed further into non-toxic nitrate. In aquarium and pond water nitrite (NO2) should not be measurable. If nitrate is measurable, it is a sign that the bacterial degradation process has been disturbed, and from a concentration of 0.4 mg/l it is dangerous or even fatal for fish, because nitrite blocks the transport of oxygen in the blood.
