Leucobryum aduncum, more widely known as ‘White Moss’, is a species of moss commonly found growing in dense, compact clumps in well-lit environments on logs, stumps, tree trunks, and sometimes on the ground. These clumps may appear whitish to the naked eye, due to trapped air pockets between the layers of dead cells within its thick, crescent-shaped “leaves”. These dead cells allow for gaseous exchange by the green living cells of the plant.
